Q: How long do I have before I register with HMRC once I start trading?

A: You must notify HMRC within 3 months to avoid a penalty.

Q: Will you be available to meet me at a time that suits me and my business?

A: Yes, we work around your needs wherever possible and we can also come to your premises if it is more convenient.

Q: Can you offer fixed fees so that I have control of my budget?

A: Yes, we offer fixed fees. The fixed fee will be reviewed annually based on the time spent.

Q: What is the deadline for the Self-Assessment Tax return?

A: Paper returns must reach HMRC by the 31st October. Online submissions by the 31st January.
If you miss these deadlines you will automatically receive a fine from HMRC.

Q: How easy is it to move from one accountant to another?

A: Very easy, all it takes is a letter to your current accountant.

Q: Can I park near your office?

A: Yes, there is ample free parking at the Business Centre.

Q: What does ACCA stand for?

A: This is the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. It is an internationally recognised professional accounting qualification.

Q: What does AAT stand for?

A: This is the Association of Accounting Technicians. It is a professional association of accounting technicians.

Q: When must my business register for VAT?

A: If your turnover for the previous 12 months has exceeded £85,000 then contact us for further advice as it is more than likely you must register now.

Q: When do I have to pay my Corporation Tax?

A: Within 9 months of your financial year end.

Q: Should I trade through a limited company?

A: That depends on your circumstances. There can be significant tax advantages and limited liability is essential in some businesses. Why not make an appointment so we can guide you through the maze?

Q: How does ‘Making Tax Digital’ affect me?

A: Under ‘Making Tax Digital for Businesses’ (MTDfB), businesses will be required to:
– maintain their records digitally, through software or apps
– report summary information to HMRC quarterly through their ‘digital tax accounts’ (DTAs)
– submit an ‘End of Year’ statement through their DTAs. More information here
